UNIT 2 : DEVELOPING ORAL SKILLS (LISTENING AND SPEAKING)
• Importance of listening and speaking in acquiring proficiency in English.
• Identification and production of distinctive sounds in English : Syllable, Stress, intonation and rhythm.
• Recognizing words in various contexts.
• Identifying meaning/gist, identifying emotions/feelings in an utterance.
• Producing language in acceptable forms : Conveying information, Formulating an appropriate response.

UNIT 3 : DEVELOPING READING AND WRITING SKILLS

B. Writing :
• The focus of this section will be developing writing skills in the following:
• Mechanics of writing : strokes, curves, proper shape, size and spacing.
• Writing messages, descriptions, reports, notices, applications, letter, invitations, posters, slogans.
• Writing a paragraph having coherence, cohesion and unity.
UNIT 4 : VOCABULARY ENRICHMENT AND GRAMMAR IN
CONTEXT
A. Vocabulary :
• Words around us (list of active and passive words to be identified, including
phrasal verbs and idioms) using them in different contexts.
• Content words and function words
• Antonyms, synonyms, homophones, homonyms.
Word formating (using prefixes and suffixes etc.)
B. Grammar in Context :
Need and importance of Grammar : Notion of correctness vs. notion of appropriateness.
Traditional grammar vs. Grammar in Context.
Grammatical items : Types of sentences, Time and tense, Parts of speech, subje verb agreement, transformation of sentences (including voices, direct and indica speech etc.), linkers, modals, prepositions and prepositional phrases.
